NNVS came into being in 1997. Its aims involve the promotion of ideas through voluntary service and charity work in Russian society and they also assist underprivileged groups of people through youth initiatives. The range of activities is wide: charity programmes; fundraising events; and training programmes for business representatives, NGOS and local government institutions. NNVS has been running international volunteer projects since 1999. Since 2005 NNVS became SFERA, as their projects were not based in Nizhny Novgorod only but they were spread over 14 regions of Russia and Kazakhstan.
