Age range
For the majority of short term projects, anyone aged 18+ can apply but you must be over 19 to participate on a project (North South Programme) in Latin America, Africa and Asia (except for Japan and South Korea). Although most volunteers applying for an international volunteer project are under the age of 30, you should be aware that the group of volunteers could have a more diverse age range, including people aged 30+. Likewise, some projects may have a minimum age limit depending on the type of work or country
A selection of projects are also available every year to volunteers aged 16 and 17 – teenage projects.
To apply for a Medium Term Project you must be aged 20+.

Nationality
You can be any nationality to apply for a project; however, (due to the way we work with our international partners) you must be resident in the UK at the time of application. If you are not a UK resident please visit the partner organisations in your own country.

Skills required
Generally projects don’t require specific skills though motivation, enthusiasm and a flexible approach are essential. English is usually the common language although some projects may specify a level of proficiency in the host country language. Likewise, certain projects, such as social or arts-based work, may require you to have some previous experience within that field. Some projects working with children might require you to have a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check or a reference letter.

Equal opportunities
As a charity that is committed to promoting equality, we encourage you to apply regardless of physical or learning ability. However, as the projects are organised by our partner organisations abroad, Concordia can not make the final decision on your placement this will be taken by our partners. Please contact the office to discuss your application and we will do our best to find you a suitable project.

Preparation
Only volunteers applying for a project in Latin America, Africa or Asia (with the exception of Japan and South Korea) on our North South programme must attend a preparation weekend before departure. The preparation is held in Brighton with dates available every year in February, June and July.

Terms and Conditions
It is your responsibility to make sure that you read the terms and conditions before going on a Concordia International Volunteer project.
